Connecting directly to a LX20

I'm re-asking this question because the manual is very vague. It specifies using a mixer and I don't have a mixer. Just a guitar and amp. Can I directly connect a instrument/guitar to the LX20, record and then play it thru the amp. Then record more channels with the original recording of the guitar? Hope I explained that right. Thanks in advance....
